Do you know what a chiclet is? You've seen them all over the Web. Now you're starting to see them in emails and within the online ad banners. Chiclets are the small images that represent social media environments such as Facebook, Digg, Delicious, LinkedIn, etc.
The benefit is to expand the reach of your email marketing and online advertising by making it easy for users to communicate your message to their friends by using their favorite social media site.
Everyone has heard of Facebook and various other social media communities. A large percentage of the population, 40 or less, uses these social communities to communicate with their friends and family. If you can create very relevant emails and online ads and then throw in the chiclets you make it easy for those users to communicate your message. Face it; we would all loose 10lbs if all we had to do was click a button. If the buttons not there it's a lot more work. If you want your message to be carried virally you have to make it easy for the user to use their social media environments.
Here are a few chiclets. A great exercise is to see how many people can name the social media environment by looking at its chiclet.
