As Facebook starts to make a company page more like a personal profile page it's important to stake your claim. Since the middle of June you have been able to create your own Facebook page name. Unfortunately you can't just create a company page and pick a name. You have to have 100 fans before you're allowed to create your name.
A Facebook page is not one of those cases where if you build it they will come. It requires a strategy, relevant and valuable content and ongoing time. Even though Social Marketing is fairly new it's important to stake your claim on your companies name.
Remember the days when the Internet started and all of a sudden there were these things called domain names. Everyone sort of said, "why would I want a domain name dot com thing?" Now we realize how important it is to have yourcompanyname.com. It's going to be important to have Facebook.com/yourcompanyname as well.
The Social Marketing arena is filled with people talking to each other. Companies are trying to jump in but unless you have a strategy or a marketing partner like Ontarget you can spend a lot of time and at the end of the day may feel the channel doesn't work.
