Targeting In Social Media

Social Media Targeting It's been a long time coming but the promise of niche targetability is finally reaching the big boys in the social media space. With the launch of myAds from MySpace, I can now target only the very specific audiences I want to reach - based on demographics and interests. And, are you listening because here's the best part??? Pay only when the viewer is interested enough to click on your ad! These aren't just text ads either. We're talking full display banner ads so you have ample opportunity to communicate your message.

Want to reach women age 25+ who love jewelry? There are over 100,000 of them waiting to see your ad. Want to reach people living in LA who were fans of the DaVinci code? There are nearly 10,000 of them waiting to see your ad. Obviously the more targeted you try to get, the smaller your audience reach becomes. But, why waste your money on a lot of people who will never be interested anyway?

This isn't an entirely new model. Google, of course, offers this level of targetability through AdWords, their pay per click search keyword model. And, they have extended this keyword targeting capability to their network of participating content sites, which is extensive. It's a fantastic offering as well which is sure be the topic of a future entry.
